Went into JHT today. Asked for a pint of mother in law. "What?"was the reply. After explaining, I paid £1 extra for 2 drinks than a month or so ago - and the beer was less than tasty. Fancied a sandwich. Looked at the menu. £9 for one! What the hell is going on? The people who used to run the pub were very pleasant. The food was good and inexpensive. Has Mr Jenner lost the plot?

It is a shame, the pair that ran and continue to run it (now employees of Harvey's) are great and really had a great boozer. Harvey's through their greed are killing a brilliant place. I just hope they see light and sort the mess out by allowing the pair of them to take some more control of the situation.

It would appear from the present postings on the Forum that little or nothing has changed since August, the last time this subject was aired at some length.
@ Dixie Normus, I agree but I feel it is a vain hope.

I'm told by Harveys employees that they're struggling financially (like every other business). I guess they're just trying to prop things up as best they can - even if that means raising prices and lowering standards.

Go to the Brewers' Arms and you will get a quality sandwich (meat from Richards the butchers) for £3. And a good pint in a traditional pub.
And 5% off with a Rooks card.

@Sussex Jim - Traditional pub? The Brewers is a cesspit, the people that run it and the people that go to it included. You can smell the dump as far down as the post office and as far up as Shelley's! Why would anybody want to have to go through the pain of having to have a pint in that dog of a place.

DN - your an idiot!
JHT - who doesnt know what a mother in law is?? What is the home of Haverys coming to if they dont know that? Maybe it was a new member of staff on or something as i doubt the 'seasond pro's' who question what it is.
I like the JHT, it was lovely when i last ventured into there. Elie & Brewers are my usual pubs though as quicker to get to
