The Game: Guess this kind of structure that can be found in and around (but not exclusive to) Lewes but marks a historic period.
Rules: 1 letter per post. I will check from time to time and fill (or not) in the suggested letters. You have 10 tries for this one.
IMPORTANT: If you try to guess a whole word and it is wrong I deduct two tries per incorrect word but credit three for each word guessed right. So, if you guess the first word right you get a three-try-credit but two tries are deducted if you don't guess the second word giving you a one-try net credit. Capiche?

Herbert,is there just one word on this one? I ask because your 'Important' comments seem to suggest there are 2 words...
It is lovely to be able to click on the last post in a thread and them all to come up in the right order too....Nice one Webby.

One word.
No 'A' as in Zola.
No 'S' as in inquisitive Decent Citizen.
I will have to deduct two additional tries 'Sorry!'. Not an obelisk.

Sorry Zee no 'E'... only one vowel in this word.. another is a double letter. I'm sure most born & breed in Lewes will have played in it as kids.. and perhaps their kids still do.

Well done. Pillbox is the correct answer. There are several of them around Lewes as part of the former coastal war defence. If you follow the Ouse to Barcombe you can see and go into one to your left next to the railway tracks at the height of Landport. 'East Sussex under attack' by Chris Butler is a good book to read on the subject. Explosives were kept under Cliffe Bridge and plan was to blow it up in case of a German invasion.
