Interfering with the post

I live in a block of flats. Rather than being delivered to each flat individually the mail is placed in individual, numbered boxes in the entry hall. Because I never really receive anything desperately important, I tend to only collect my mail every few days. For quite some time now it has been increasingly obvious that mail is being taken from my box. Can any post person out there tell me if it is royal mail policy to take mail that hasn't yet been picked up - without leaving any notification,- and if so how do I get them to stop.

Shawn - Thank you
Sceptic - Yes, I do
Bornandbred - Yes, I'd thought of that, but its my mail and my mail box. How far do we all have to go in changing our behaviour just to keep the bad guys at bay?

It's actually a criminal offence - something like "interfering with the Royal Mail". (Not that I suspect the police would thank you for reporting it, but even so). I think the answer probably is to (a) collect your mail more regularly and (b) improve the security and/or capacity of the box.
