Some of you will know that I am the anonymous 'mystery candidate' for Prime Minister, that has not yet been announced. When I become prime minister I plan to cut the current 40% income tax rate to 10% for everyone earning more than £50k. To pay for this, public transport, the NHS, the police, local government services and education will be made more sustainable by the removal of all government funding, to the benefit of everyone.

Why stop there SHS? I like the cut of your jib, sir. We can start our own currency, the curo that will cure the economy. With my Curopean Bank creating money out of nothing and granting ourselves immunity from any law we can't lose. You can be President of Cuerope and with a parliament that has no power to initiate legislation we would be untouchable. You may think me a baseless dreamer but I assure you-- there is a precedent, it's been done before and it can be done again. He who dares......

In 1970 the BASIC rate of income tax was 8/4d. in the Pound. That equates to over 42% in the £ in decimal currency. The Conservatives were elected later in the year, with Ted Heath as PM.
In his first budget, Heath reduced the basic rate to 30%- and increased the threshold. I remember two older colleagues at work discussing this, and one said "He's cut 3 million people out of the tax bracket".
Such good fortune only happens perhaps once or twice in a lifetime. And gets forgotten by the "glass half empty" moaners of today.
