I've seen a picture of a beach somewhere with people sitting on it. Lots of negative reactions to it. If you look more carefully at it then you can see that no family sized group is anywhere near another. It is a big beach and the shot is taken from low down so there is no perspective in the shot. Everyone looks to be clearly social distancing. There is no increased risk of increasing infection that I can see. What is wrong with it?

I’ll tell you what’s wrong with it........I’m not there with my family. My next door neighbour is not there with his family and thousands more families are not there with their families. If we were there, the beach would be packed and so would be impossible. So WHY do they think it’s ok to be there while I’m staying at home?

Well, bully for you then The Gardener. What you remind me of are those people who have never been in a union, never done anything to defend their wages and conditions, who point to workers with better conditions and a pension and say, 'It's not fair. Why should they get that.' If you want to go to the beach, go. If you'd rather sit at home self-righteously being a good boy, then do that.

Oh sorry, I mistakenly thought that by refraining from social contact I might indirectly save someone from a hideous death and lighten the load on an overstretched NHS.

And Basil, need I say what you remind ‘me’ of?

Have you seen the size of the beach at Brighton or seaford Gardener? I have very little doubt your family could go there with no chance of social contact at all. Both places would run out of parking places long before the beach got to a situation in which one family got anywhere near another. In Brighton the beach can extend towards the marina and in seaford towards tide mills. You would have to be very stupid in either place to run any risk of increasing the strain on the NHS.

That picture was just clever use of the old shutter speed/aperture ratio. A good photographer can get away with a lot.

Ever seen Brighton beach on a sunny bank holiday? It would be even busier if everyone furloughed went there. Ok , they could spread out towards Hove but that’s not the point. Tell me what happens about toilet facilities, public transport, and thousands of people leaving the beach to filter through the exit areas. Look at the bigger picture for Christ’s sake.

They open toilets and people behave responsibly. People use the many exit points responsibly having arrived under their own steam. I don't see why I should be banned from the beach just because you are not confident that you can behave in a way that will prevent infection Gardener. If it becomes a problem then we can address it and I have no intention of taking unnecessary risks of being injected. Becoming hysterical over pictures which apparently show poor social distancing but actually show the opposite is not helpful at all. I see the bigger picture better than you (for Christ's sake) so would prefer it if you did not impose your limits on me.

Nevileman, what could possibly motivate you to act in ways that raise the risk not only for yourself but for the most vulnerable? It is clear that something has gone wrong with your thought process. Your misguided beliefs don’t make you a bad person, you are after all only human.

I may or may not go to the beach if it is quiet enough. I don't know what makes you think I intend doing anything that increases my chances of being injected or infecting someone else.

What I object to it is the irrational reaction to a picture like that where people are prepared to believe what they are told a picture is telling us rather than making a calm judgement based on the evidence. I'm prepared to believe you are not a bad person either. Clearly human though.

The hysteria is everywhere. Looking at the latest statistics (I know, lies ,damn lies etc.) if you are under forty you are a third more likely to be struck by lightning than to die of covid 19 or probably 20 and 21. I'm not sure what the chances are for progressive primadonnas but I advise them to keep their masks on and not go out in storms.
