Oh no - the ASLEF strike hasn't been blocked by the court and is going ahead. Are any travellers to London clubbing together in cars, or finding ingenious non-train routes? This isn't a thread about Southern or the unions, but just how commuters and others are managing to get to London and other places reliably these days.

A few years ago groups of commuters organised coaches to travel to London for a 1/2/3 month basis. Seem to remember one went from Eastbourne........many logistical issues with doing this but it did work before....

Drive to Tunbridge Wells or other SouthEastern service. It will add an hour to your journey but there are trains every 10-15 mins at peak times. Not much fun I know but quicker than driving into central London.

Good thought, @commuter. I don't have a car, but there is a bus to T Wells, and it sounds a feasible route for my spasmodic trips London-wards for my freelance work. Thanks

Better off going to Haywards Heath. Only slightly longer journey, less traffic, and you're 20 minutes further up the track. Seats might be an issue though.

@Observer. I've been driving to HH on conductor strike days and its a very good option. Just as quick as train from Lewes. However good luck getting on a train when the drivers are on strike as well.

As someone said above, the drivers strike is only Gatwick Express and Southern. It doesn't affect Thameslink.
