Why can't people just leave us be. You wouldn't like it here. This is a local town for local people.

Nonsense league of gentleman! Hi Zahida , I recommend you research other ways because this forum is unlikely to give the answers you need. Lewes is a fab place to live, welcoming to all despite the comments on here, this site is not representative of the Lewes population !! Can't go wrong with either southover or Wallands , get stuck in locally and block out Nov 5th in your calendar! Good luck !

Are you moving down from London by any chance? If so then please just stay there as the DFL's are what ruined what used to be a quaint little hippy town. I take it you must be loaded if looking at Wallands or Southover, I am sure your money would be better put to use elsewhere.

Usual appalling abuse of people moving Down from London. As I have posted before, my daughter was born and brought up in Lewes. Trained and worked hard in London. Sold her flat and moved to Lewes with small kids. She and husband work locally for the NHS. So, as they have moved 'down from London' they are not allowed to come back 'home'? Who the hell do you think is going to teach your grandchildren and look after your familly medically? Get real.

We are moving from Glasgow - Shawlands. There are 7 of us, hence the need for a larger house.

Welcome, Zahida. We aren't all morons. And yes, Lewes is a great place to live.

The two areas are different in feel and layout. Southover has a lot of historic buildings - lots of Tudor, sometimes with Victorian fašades, along the High St, and lots of narrow streets and alleyways. There are lot of open spaces nearby too, and easy access to the downs as well. The station is also close.

Wallands has a core of big Victorian and Edwardian houses set on wider streets. There are also a lot of 1930/50s semis and some Victorian terraces. It's a bit further from the station - perhaps half an hour if you're right at the top of Gundreda Road. There's good access to the downs, but not so much public open space.

You probably have already discovered this, but Lewes has a lot of small houses/cottages/terraced houses but four bedrooms are harder to find in both those areas without spending very big bucks indeed.

We've got an increasing number of beggars, street drinkers and drug addicts in the town and we're moaning about middle class people from London. Just saying.

As you're moving from Glasgow, you'll be familiar with drugs and the problems they bring. Lewes, unfortunately also suffers from this blight.

I moved down from London and could not afford a property in Lewes thanks to the other people from London so now I beg in Lewes town centre so I can pay for the petrol money to drive back home to my flat in Brighton.

Lewes is fab! We moved here 3 years ago and enjoy it! But if you want a big house, look in the surrounding villages!

Zahida, this may not answer your original question but your coming here will certainly help restore the imbalance... (Not enough people around here whose names begin with the letter "Z".)
Lewes is nice. Quite steep streets in some places. And very small by Glasgow and Brighton standards. But I like it.

I wouldn't move to Southover, there's a big group of idiots who all mill around the area wearing red and black sweatshirts, looking lost, every year on the 5th of November, it's not a pretty sight.

Have you seen the Southover procession? More sweatshirts and rugby shirts than an afternoon at Twickenham.
