Considering car hire when I visit Lewes. Worried about being ripped off - can anyone recommend a decent local car hire company that won’t scam me with hidden extra insurance, made up damage claims post hire etc? Thx for sensible suggestions

The only car hire in Lewes, I think, is Lewes Chailey Rental. Otherwise, Enterprise in Uckfield will apparently deliver a car to Lewes; or I've used Thrifty who are just round the corner from Brighton station - they've been fine. Another thought would be Co-Wheels car-sharing, if you're a member - there are a couple of cars in Lewes.

Note to self: Don't use Orange Vehicle Rentals because a firm that uses such a pathetically transparent marketing gambit must be run by 12 year olds.

Lewes Chailey Rental is good, in my experience. Although it's run by a couple of dodgy-looking geezers in a scruffy lock-up, both the car and price were good and it was a hassle-free process.

I would also prefer Mr Orange to be using a local phone number. However, good luck in your new venture despite the transparent marketing ploy.

I agree with @Arthur Dailey - used Chailey once and although it was a dodgy-seeming set-up - cash transaction in a car-park - the car was very good and the process simple.

No forms to fill ? Insurance ? Better get my note pad out . A non computerised business in this day and age for car/van rental all a bit suspect

You're quite right to query it, but yes, form to fill, yes insurance. Just not at a desk. Can't say more - it worked for me.

Most American car buyers find out about this fact when it's too late. They fell into an expensive fraudulent trap that could even turn into legal problems. Don't risk it. Make sure to do free vin history before purchasing by using our simple and free vin decoder. And Vininspect service will help you with this
