What's henfield like to live in? Anyone know?
Thinking of moving out of Lewes. Fed up of renting and surrounded by houses I can't afford to buy. Henfield looks cheaper, but what's it like?

Ignore the haters, I lived there for 30 years and it's very nice, good amenities and close to Brighton etc. Bad news is it's quite a lot pricier than Lewes.

I have friends who live in Henfield and they love it. I think it is a great place. Got everything you need there - not sure if it is more expensive than Lewes? But a good place to live I think.

Very nice little town, smaller than Lewes but bigger than Ringmer. Has a parish council, not a town council, and a Budgens. Commutersville, as reasonable road access to Brighton and the A23, but I'm not sure where the nearest station is. Is growing quite fast, and the surrounding countryside is besieged by developers. It could find itself in the middle of the new Mayfields Garden Town, if that project ever goes ahead.

Thanks Clifford. By the time you get to Hassocks, where there is not much parking, you might as well stay in your car to your destination, unless it is Brighton or Central London.

Catherine, i have been doing the research on Henfield for a number of months and have just bought a house there. Living in Hove for 10 years and then London for the last 4 we were worried about it being a bit sleepy, but have discovered it's a great community with two great pubs one good pub and one rubbish one (that we live near!) it's close enough to Brighton and Hove if Village (albeit a large one) life gets too much. The downs link runs through it with great walks to neighbouring villages. It has great farm shops and local events (classic cars/Christmas markets/fabulous church) etc. I don't think it can be compared to Lewes as that is much bigger and very different, think less Lib Dem and more Tory!
Transport links are great by road but as others have said Hassocks parking is rubbish, however Haywards Heath is only 25 mins drive assuming a London commute is necessary? Waitrose is only 20 mins away in Horsham or Hove similar distance and you are surrounded by the south downs. House prices are i think ok, decent 4/5 bed for under 700k and much less if you buy new build, but i am used to London prices! in summary less pretentious than Ditchling and not as weird as Lewes! go for it! ...if you don't like it you can always move to the coast!
