Hedgerow destruction on the Downs

The hedgerow which runs parallel to the road up to the riding stables above Nevill has been completely removed from about half way up. All the wildflowers have been destroyed. Who did this i wonder- what is the owner of the stables perhaps? it is tragic and i am very surprised that there are no regulations to stop this sort of behaviour. I will raise this with LDC and others to see what can be done if anything but if anyone else knows the law that would be great. There is no excuse for this - including visibility. If the cars were not being driven at speed up to the stables this would not be a problem.

This happened months ago and big hoohah at the time. Fitch Heyes I believe. No idea why he did it. He was happy to let his sewage escape on to a bridleway and do nothing at the same time but this wildlife destruction was more important. A lot of forelock tappers happy to tell you it was his land and he could do what he wants seemed to be the best argument.

Is Fitch Hayes the person with a bit of a temper? Someone told me there was a bit of unpleasantness earlier in the year involving whips....? Sure it was just malicious rumours.......

Careful David. Never heard of Fitch Heyes in the frame for this alleged attack. Much more likely candidate is trainer or ex trainer nearer town.

Fair enough. I just wondered if there were any more developments about that incident. It sounded quite serious.

I heard that the poor man who was attacked couldn't identify his assailant. Many people in the area would have immediately come up with the same name for the most likely thug but proof is required. It is dangerously libellous to name names in connection with crimes on a site like this as well as being wrong to do so without direct evidence. Jfh had a number of black marks against his name in my book including that his poo really stinks but be careful what you accuse him of.

I think you are fully entitled to criticise him for a number of things David including the hedgerow destruction. I really don't get that. It can't have been cheap. I believe the reason given was it was a dangerous blind bend and it got slippery in the frost without the sun to warm it. Hardly big enough reasons to justify that expense in my opinion.
