Someone said something nasty to me in 1985 but i got over it and led a normal life. Now, as i'm a bit of a snowflake, this has come back to haunt me.
Could I still get that person brought to account for their nasty words as it is a hate crime?

@ Mr Sensitive. Nope, unless they sexually assaulted or abused you and you've been too scared to talk openly about it. If the verbal abuse was verging on harassment and bullying, it probably won't go far in legal terms, but you're more than entitled to call someone out for being that way and find some closure and peace that way (and potentially warn others about the kind of person they may be dealing with). Who knows, the culprit may feel guilt and wish to apologise for remarks they made 30 years ago as well, so its certainly worth considering if you feel this way about it still after all this time.

Apologies though if I just ruined some weekend trolling and was looking for different kinds of responses.

If it wasn't a hate crime at the time the event occurred, as it wasn't because hate crime didn't exist then, then you can't prosecute anyone for it now. Persecuting them is a different matter.

If that person touched your knee or brushed against you, it's sexual harassement. If that person asked you for a date, it's unwanted sexual advances. If they asked you twice, it's grooming. In all cases the police will investigate for you, even if that person is dead.

Thought this thread was going to be about the knuckle draggers demonstrating their hatred of all folk in Lewes by letting off bangers at near 1am still despite bonfire night being well and truly over.

"bantz" - a phrase used by idiots and not at all connected with "taking the p I s s"
