I'd like to pay extra for the weight of those lovely inedible green bits on the top of carrots so that they can sit picturesquely in my shopping basket.

Yawn. Anyone try the strawberries from Bill's over the summer? What strawberries are supposed to taste like. Not that much more expensive than Tesco.

Strawberries are very easy to grow in your own garden. Don't take up much space, easy to look after, taste delicious and cost nothing. Never had much luck with carrots though.

That was indeed long ago, Geoff. Here in the 21st century supermarkets have priced all the ordinary shops out of business, and we have places like Bill's to remind us what locally-sourced, traditionally grown food used to taste like, even if the reminder comes at something of a premium.
We grew some lettuces this year, Sussex Girl, in pots on the window cill.

Not been a great year for growing in the garden, but we grow spuds in stacked up car tyres, tomatoes in hanging baskets, strawberries in pots, peppers, chilis and onions, runner beans do well in giant pots and we do all this in a small garden.
Like i said not good this year though

QUOTE OF THE MOMENT
I like the fact it's safe enough to leave windows open and shops don't need to put grills up at night.
