LDC Development sites in Lewes : Ham lane sites

From the maps which were published on the District Council website these included the Household Waste and Recycling Site, a strip of land next to the A27 By-pass and a long piece of land, very narrow in places, between the school grounds and the lane that runs parallel to the A27.

The official leaflet which is being circulated at the moment states“The proposal is for family homes which will be sold at market value, raising funds to reinvest in affordable housing”.

It is not clear which of the original sites are still under consideration, but as the leaflet states:
“We will work in partnership with East Sussex County Council on retaining the recycling site in Lewes."
the Household Waste and Recycling Site is still being considered by Lewes District Council to put a house on.

I am very puzzled by all of the sites on Ham Lane being suggested for development. All of the sites are contaminated to varying degrees which could significantly increase the cost of any development especially the waste and recycling site. Lewes has to have such a site by law, we are too far from the other sites not to, so it would have to be re-sited somewhere nearby.

I have been told that the waste and recycling site would be planned to be for just one house, and it is difficult to see how one house could be sold for enough to recoup the expense. Ham Lane is not adopted. The immediate environment includes a number of uses not conducive to family living including the local water treatment works and the by-pass.

What do you think?

Who the hell would want to buy a house smack bang next to the town's sewage farm, let alone right along the school fence line.

What utter stupidity even thinking of building homes in this area. Anyone ultimately buying-or renting will probably be driving into town almost every day along Ham Lane; as will any service vehicles; both during and after construction.
And where will be the replacement "dump"? Or will disposers of domestic waste be expected to further increase their carbon footprint to visit sites further afield?

Just one of the many silly sites Lewes District Council are trying to get developed because they own them. They are just wasting your and my money on a project they will never be able to deliver, because they make no sense in planning law.
