What's it all about eh? This 'celebration' did not exist when I was growing up. I was aware of Halloween as a time that witches might fly, but that was it. Along comes the USA (as it usually does) and we import all the commerciality which of course the retailers exploit to the limit. I feel sorry for the young parents, slightly bemused, with their children, trying to make it an event in places (like my street) where it's not that welcome and it's certainly not the USA. The USA exploits us as a little country where we speak the same language and I can certainly see them licking their lips in the current climate.

Make the most of your life old bloke, you have very few years left with us. I wouldn’t bother moaning about something that you will not see much more of.

Halloween is older than the USA. Don't blame them for everything.

All Hallow's Eve stems from the Celt tribes of Ireland & Scotland, way before the USA was around. All of the traditions we follow come from either the United Kingdom or Europe. Halloween has bugger all to do with the USA.
So don't give them credit for it!

Really?! What does it matter? Children of our community enjoy it. It gives them something to look forward to and enjoy. Enjoy it with them. Your life may be a little less depressing than the Lewes forum to vent on.

Get over it, let the kids enjoy themselves. There’s no pressure for people who don’t want to get involved, just a simple note on the door will do.
Some brilliant attempts from houses around the town tonight, one with projections all over the windows

Ousedale resident...……..why were there no trick or treaters around Ousedale last night? I thought a lot of children lived there.
Genuine question.

Pixie on a leaf, would you take your child here to trick or treat?
It’s not the most inviting place, I must say.

Ousedale resident...………..No; I have to say that I would not. I just thought that all of the children round there would 'trick or treat' their friends / neighbour's.
Sorry for any misunderstanding.
