The people who are occupying the Lewes School since it closed down are not squatters or tenants. They are Guardians which means they are 'live in' security and care takers of the property. They have to adhere to strict rules and restrictions and also pay for the space they are occupying. This is called a license fee and it is just below market value rent. The Guardian company of the lewes school is called Adhoc and are afilliated with the local council in agreement to care for the vacant property while re-development and/or repurposing plans take place.
I personally have been doing the guardian scheme for a number of years and everyone who I have ever shared the spaces with are often friendly artists and people who need a break from exorbident rent and bills. We are approachable decent people and you need not fear any upset to your immediate community.
There are showers and kitchen facilities installed for them and it's all completely legal. You will find online many agencies who specialize with this but in and around sussex there are only a couple. There is 'Adhoc' and The Brighton and Hove council is affiliated with Oaksure Guardian agency for many vacant properties currently in the care of the council to prevent squatters and damage to the properties.
I hope this helped with any fears and concerns regarding the school and it's new occupants.
