So tonight, it was announced that the YMCA buildings in Westgate Street, Lewes has been sold to The Lewes Old Grammar School.
This means that the sports hall, the popular after school club and the Holiday Play Scheme stop at the end of July and the all year round nursery will stop at the end of August.
This sad news is going to effect hundreds of families with children who attend these services, and also many members of staff that run these services.
This means that Lewes will no longer have ANY after school club or play scheme service, and one less all year round nursery.
Sad times!

Presumably then there will be no more parents dumping their cars on the yellow lines and disappearing to collect their children- despite empty parking bays being available. At least the LOGS parents wait in their cars, and are prepared to move.

So I have to say obviously at this moment in time they'll have to go west, but hey, Lewes don't need kids' facilities. It does need places like LOGS, Bill's and DFL's. Kind regards, the Construction Guy. PS I'm available for hen parties while I wait for a job rebuilding St. Anne's

@Driver Please be serious for a second.
So what you are saying is that you are more concerned about the state of peoples temporary parking, and the image of LOGS parents, than you are about the loss of the children's facilities that cater to 100's of families in the town?
Typical LOGS/DFL parent speaking there. No consideration for anyone else except themselves and their oh so perfect children.

This is heartbreaking news. I hope that the Lewes community will rally round and support the staff at the YMCA in finding alternative provision for this desperately needed service.

Seems like a slightly odd purchase by LOGS, what on earth are they planning on doing with the place? Will need an overhaul to be of proper use for them. Does anyone have an idea of how much moolah they have in the bank? Are they growing as a school?

Both my children attend bothe the after school club and the nursery... This is a major pain in the back side for my family and I and could be the end of my wife's job as there are no longer any options for after school care..
It's about time the council actually done something for the people of this town rather than selling up all the gathering places
