I've been in the town for just over a year now but I have had enough of the parking situation in Lewes. I have been refused a parking permit and can't be bothered with the hassle and expense any more. I'm not sure why a controlled parking zone was put in place but when you pay your way in this world and pay your council tax it rather sticks in the craw that my neighbours can own a garage, drive and still be permitted 2 parking permits and yet I am not allowed one. I am now looking to move to a place whose council works for its community.

I'm not sure why the CPZ was put in place either. But if you were refused a permit, it should not have come as a surprise. The only development I know of where the residents are not entitled to buy a permit is the Printworks at the top of St Nicholas Lane. But they do have their own underground car park, and you will have been made aware of the parking restrictions when you signed the lease.

It does seem daft that addresses with off-road parking can get a resident's permit. If you choose to live in Lewes, or any other town, you must accept that you cannot leave your personal chariot outside your house while not in use; unless you have unres
tricted parking, or a permit system.
Buy a house with a driveway or garage, or accept that you are a non-motorist. If your family extends to more drivers than your property will accomodate, then it is time to move out of town.
