No Deal is better than a Bad Deal ! We were never going to get a Good Deal anyway. Let's just get on with it. The sooner the break the quicker we can move on.

Why has the word FOREIGN wrongly appeared in the opening post? Some of these ferries are British.

Hi Nancy. Afraid not, £94 million pays for the foreign ferries. £14m on top goes to the British ones. £108 total. It's in the article.

'Jean Claude-Juncker, then president of the European Council and prime minister of Luxembourg, when news flashed up on the TV screens of the astonishing rejection by French voters of the draft European Constitution in their 2005 referendum could have responded in so many ways, to try to understand why the voters in traditionally one of Europe’s most Europhile countries emphatically rejected further EU integration. But his immediate response, without drawing breath, was: “They will just have to vote again.” In fact, the French voters weren’t trusted to give the right answer second time around, and so the treaty was pushed through the French parliament instead. Dial forward 13 years, and Juncker is now president of the European Commission...'

Never changes, does it?

Downvotes for a simple description of what happened in France in 2005? It also happened in Ireland in 2008. Seems like our local Remainers also have trouble with democracy.

@clifford The French and Dutch rejected the EU's European Constitution. The EU made changes (not just in name) and proposed what became the Lisbon Treaty. The Irish rejected the initial Lisbon Treaty by a relatively small margin and the EU responded by making changes requested by the Irish which the Irish then overwhelmingly supported in the second referendum.
To me, this seems like a sensible process of compromise. To claim that the French, or Irish, or simply presented the same question is just plain untrue.
