As organisers of the event we would like to add some comments.
Firstly to apologise for the lack of vegetarian food. An oversight we took for granted would be catered for by the burger van contracted to supply food.
Secondly: Ticket sales for the event were at 37, just one week before the event so roasting more than one pig would have been madness.
Thirdly: Staffing options were limited. Everyone who did work worked their arses off collecting glasses, keeping the place clean, standing on the gate, working behind the bars, serving food to non festival customers and generally making the event succesfull. Sorry if the toilets weren't sparkling but get over it!
Fourthly: This is the first time we tried to do anything on this scale. We had no idea how many people would turn up on the day. We all learn by our mistakes!
Fifthly: So many people came together to make it work from Harvey's, Cliffe bonfire, villagers, Glyndebourne, regular drinkers, staff and media companies. To hear someone bitching undermines the efforts and the overall outcome (which was a massive success).
sixthly: Hundreds of pounds were raised for each of the 4 local organisations and charities.
Seventhly: There was no trouble at the event, except for one woman who aggressively, verbally attacked me because there was no vegan food. If you wish to limit your diet so drastically then bring a picnic to any such event. Unless it's something like The Big Green Gathering scale of event, you will not be catered for!
Eighthly: Only three people had a grievance strong enough to actually say something about it. Not bad out of over 600 people attending!
To anyone who genuinely feels put out and hard done by, GET OVER YOURSELF, and try doing it yourself. We'll all have a good moan at your misgivings and see how you feel about that.
Thank you to everyone who attended and enjoyed the day. Thank you to everyone who helped out: Cliffe, Sprouts, Glyndebourne, Staff, villagers. Special thanks to JHT for letting us shamelessly advertise and sell tickets from the pub. That goes for the Evening Star in Brighton too.
