We're all tryiing to touch as little stuff that other people touch. When there are no animals in a field such as at Landport bottom could not the gate be tied open by the shepherd so that people can just walk through. Or should someone just do it, confident that the shepherd will check them before releasing animals into it?

How about you take with you a wipe, glove, or tissue?
Leaving the gate open will be an issue for dogs running out and possibly in to the main road

It's a good half mile from either of the gates at the top and bottom of Landport bottom to the main road. Can a dog owner confirm that is really an issue. Shepherd? Someone is responsible for the sheep.

Why not just wash your hands? It's not that hard is it? There is a serious problem with imbecilic dog owners at the moment so leaving gates open is not a good idea.

Any dog on any road – including Motor Road – is bad news.
And the bottom gate into the right hand field is about twenty yards from Nevill Road, not half a mile!

Lack of enthusiasm for my idea suggests that the people of lewes not quite ready for changes yet. You wait. Give it a year or so and the person responsible for the sheep who I would define as shepherds will be fastening the gates open when sheep aren't in it. Much less wear and tear on gates. Dog owners who can't control their dogs shouldn't be there anyway.

Yes, of course. You're so right, but you'll have to wait for all the stupid others to catch up with your brilliant ideas.
Or, of course, you're a fool, and have some stupid ideas.
We'll all decide.....

I couldn't help wondering what interest Bill Gates had in Landport's bottom. Perhaps he thought it was a good target for his syringe.
