Ahoy there shipmates! A pinch and a punch for the first of the month! The sun is shining, so lets' all enjoy August.
However, this month also marks the 50th. anniversary of the scuppering of the many pirate radio stations that were anchored around our coast to broadcast popular music all day and night. For those of you too young to remember, we previously only had the state monopoly of the BBC for radio, which gave us only a limited output of pop.
On August 14th. 1967 the (Labour) Government introduced the Marine Offences Bill; which made it illegal for anyone to supply or visit a ship transmitting in international waters. I propose we mark this sad event with a boycott of radio, TV and listening to music on Monday the 14th. this year.
Otherwise, enjoy the summer!
