Brighton council have approved free parking on Saturday 6 December 2014, Saturday and Sunday 7, 14 and 21 December 2014 in five car parks.
Great support for small retailers in Brighton. Anyone know if Lewes Council will be doing anything?

Historian - I'm waiting to see if Norman has worked his magic on the St Anne's /Subud debacle; a defining moment I think.

FYI from an email I got in September. I agree with the sentiments.
"At the Parking Board today it was announced that ESCC are intending to give free parking in December each Thursday from 4pm (just one hour but it is something) and also repeat the free parking for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day which happened last year." Sadly this does not include LDC car parks I believe.
Please refer to the correct authority in these posts please, rather than 'The Council'. Only LDC and ESCC are responsible for parking in Lewes.
Also, although the local MP has power and influence, no MP has the power to directly stop a local authority from doing something. Norman, LTC and many others have tried hard and have partially succeeded in making this crap scheme a bit better. However ESCC and to a lesser extent LDC are those who need to be lobbied.

Merlin, it's not out fault we have three bloody councils ! When we say the Councils crap, we're not being specific !

Given Lewes's overcrowded car parks, why not rent the entire car park from LDC? I am sure that the rate per space would be at a good discount! It seems that anyone can rent the town centre car parks for weddings, christenings and barmitzvahs (and company openings)

Indeed. It goes back to the local government legislation in around 1974. Before that we had just Lewes Borough Council and ESCC. Personally I wish we could back to that.
LDC in their great wisdom have decided to buy 3 banners and put them up in Lewes, Newhaven and Seaford to advertise the 3 Xmas shopping days, rather than do what they did last year and do some free parking. Anyway this comes for a regime that has said that Lewes does not matter.
