Just walked down the newly reopened Fisher street and am wondering why it was actually closed for two weeks as there seems to be no evidence of the road being dug up. Also judging by the new bits of tarmac outside the town hall are only on one side of the road couldn't we have had one lane open for a while and not suffered as much with the huge diversion and loss of trade to the town?

Think because they had to dig up the area between the memorial and including the actual crossroads, Fisher street had to be shut.
Don't think it caused too many problems myself and can't see how having one lane open would account for this "huge loss of trade".
Love the sign saying "any abuse to the workforce will be prosecuted" that's there at the moment !!!! Do people actually give workmen stick for doing their jobs ?

they were digging up to the entrances of the shops to re-lay gas and water,if you were a pedestrian you would have noticed that.only the first half of fisher st was closed,it was possible to use market st then take the left into fisher st.I expect the residents enjoyed the peace from buses.

and,yes they do,shame they can't see past the nuisance to a successful job done, sewers that don't rupture and gas that doesn't leak.I'm amazed at the joined up thinking that has gone in to this, mending the pipes before surfacing.

It is sad to think that we expect our representatives to make a mess of things like this, but I too am amazed that they thought to upgrade the underlying services before resurfacing. Someone should get a medal.
