Is there a good traditional Fish 'n Chips Shop in Lewes or surrounding area...I've visited a few takeaways in the town but can't say I've been impressed.
Is there one that you would recommend?

South street chippy isn't bad. Chips can vary in quality sometimes though. I don't like the other shops.

The Ringmer fish and chippy is fantastic, in my opinion. Much better than South St too.

I Agree Cliffebimbo but the two times that I've been there, I have found the people that run it, not very friendly.

No chippies around here seems to do bread rolls for a chip butty. Failing that, South Street is good.

The fish and chips in Lewes are pretty rubbish. Chips at South St can be okay but quality varies from week to week. The fish is horrid - often grey, so not the freshest, batter way to heavy and often not cooked through. The best fish and chips we've had in Lewes was a one-off in the real Food place. Beautiful flakey haddock, light crsipy batter, thick chunky chips. Trouble is it costs a small fortune to eat there - we were being treated by the in-laws. And portion size is small.

Best fish n chips are those you are offerred by others, always better than your own. IMO you need to be on a seafront to get the best out of any fish n chips. Sitting on Whitby harbour wall was mine, way back when.
