Finding community in Lewes

Hello
I've lived in Lewes for a few years now and although I have a good few friends, I am looking for more of a sense of community.
I'm not a religious person (though I've nothing against religion) so I wouldn't feel comfortable going to church, but something like that...
I would like to find something where I could volunteer my time to really help people in their lives.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
Simon P.

The football club survives thanks to its volunteers. And a good friendly bunch they are too. Turnstiles, bar, raffle tickets, programmes. Nothing too onerous. The more the merrier.

So you haven't noticed:
The bonfire societies
The football club (see above)
The Pells Pool mob
The cricket clubs (non playing if you want )
The friends meeting house on School Hill
The friends of Lewes
Do you ever get out ??

And based on their food hygiene rating, a couple of meals at Bills should be all you need before you get to meet the team at your local pharmacist or doctor's surgery.

This is a funny place. Right-wing, traditional, but when someone wants to communicate and get together with others they get the mickey taken out of them.
