Extinction Rebellion, the ecological protest group founded in 2018, has initiated its “Summer Uprising”. Namely, blockading roads in cities around the country in order to highlight our reliance on fossil fuels.
In response, Policy Exchange, a think tank set up by three Conservative MPs in 2002, has released a paper labelling the group as “extremist” and seeking “to break down the established civil order and liberal democracy in the UK”.

In my day anarchists and youthful extremists would join international socialists or other Trotskyist parties. Now I am sure some of them have joined extinction rebellion and other direct action environmentalist groups. It doesn't make them wrong though, at least in their aims, even if not always in their methods. Environmental catastrophe is quite capable of breaking down civil order in the long run.

Nevillman - No, Anarchists joined Anarchist groups. Anarchists and Marxists, which is what Trotskyists are, have fundamental disagreements. Anarchists don't believe in state control; Trotskyists do.

This problem with socialist anarchy and student rebellion has been going on for fifty years; since the permissive days of the Wilson regime. For goodness sake, grow up and contribute to rebuilding our society.
We now have a brief chance to support our new PM Boris. The economy is booming, we have practically no unemployment - and as an independent nation free of EU restriction we can forge ahead. (we are already the fifth largest economy)
Don't let the idealistic Greens, Liberals (!) or socialists mess up our new era.

I disagree basil. What people say they are and what they are may not be the same. I could call them young people going through a rebellious phase but I realise that is quite patronising. As for blindly following a prime minister whose only qualification seems to be an intense desire to be prime minister, was elected by 90000 people whose views on most things I do not share and wants to take us out of an international alliance that has brought us peace and prosperity, Sussex Jim, then no. You must be joking.

If brexit causes half the economic catastrophe that remainers predict then our ensuing poverty will surely cause our emissions to go down. That's a good thing isn't it?

On the one hand reduced economic activity should lead to less pollution with fewer lorries, energy for manufacturing etc. On the other hand there will be less money available for investment in green technology. When GDP falls, the loss in income is not evenly spread as some people lose their job and others don't. This will mean that some family's income will fall and others will not.
