Any electricians out there? Had a bill from a local electrical company which seems expensive.
My oven's electrics died. Company in question came round and traced fault to water in my cooker's wall switch (probably from the kettle boiling).
They put a new switch on the wall. Oven now works.
How much would you have charged?

How much should an electrician charge? About 240 volts.

Depends how long they were there. If they managed to get it done within the hour then maybe a ton.
Good joke ebm, the 240 volt one.

Finding the fault should have been very simple as there would have been no mains on the cooker so the switch and fuse in ther switch would have been the very first thing to look at.
I completely understand how a steaming kettle can get water into a wall-based cooker switch, but I've not heard of this damaging the switch before (but then I'm not authority). Normally the trip switch on the consumer unit should blow. If yours didn't there is cause for concern (or your wiring is very old). The electrician should have mentioned this.
I'd have estimated the work at around an hour and the cost of the switch at not more than £20 so £90... or £70 plus materials. I can't see an electrician charging less than £70 for a call-out (but again, I'm not an authority).

Fair enough, sounds about right. Thought I'd ask anyway.
'My wife's gonna kill me', you don't really get this anonymous forum thing do you? I thought you were supposed to be working by the way.
