Egrets way funding

The egrets way organisers say that they have received funding from highways England from a pot that is put aside for planned enhancements including the creation of cycle lanes. I'm afraid that money going from this fund to the egrets way makes the prospect of a proper cycle path between Lewes and Newhaven even less likely. As discussed on here before, the egrets way is a leisure path, not a cycle path for cyclists who want to cycle between the 2 towns. If highways England pays for egrets way in the mistaken belief that it is creating a cycle path, it is hardly likely to ever pay for a proper one.

You are right, of course. Perhaps the only answer is to lobby for a speed limit reduction. The C7 would be a lot safer if it was restricted to 30 mph for its full length. If drivers want to go faster they could use the A26. However, the Egrets Way path has always been for general leisure use by walkers and cyclist, not a high speed cycling route. The campaign always made that clear.

Maybe you would, but I guarantee hardly anyone else would obey the speed limit, regrettable as it may be.

I understand what you are saying Tom, but on that road one person driving at the speed limit means e everyone behind does too. Overtaking is too dangerous for anyone but a lunatic.

Ferret the problem is that there are lunatics, and plenty of them.
