This is a sad and infuriating subject, as so much misinformation is pushed, and the far-right lap it up as their truth. I was (unfortunately) watching some segment on GB News last night, and some RW twit was saying that every migrant leaving/escaping their country wants to come to Britain - this couldn't be any more inaccurate. Sure, some do, and given that many of the countries they are fleeing have some past British colonial influence (with the english language likely being more understood than french, german etc), but the vast majority are going to other EU countries and settling there. A small minority of them are making the risky journey to hope to find a better life here, but instead they get greeted by Nigel Farage in the middle of the English Channel shouting at them through a megaphone and hoping they sink so he can shed his crocodile tears for them and say he was right and they should have stayed in France.

Absolutely sick of the ghastly rhetoric of right-wingers treating other human beings with such disregard and hate. They never blame their own government, they never blame Brexit (which they inevitably voted for), and they never blame themselves. They only blame others, especially because they are foreign, look and sound different. I'd swap every asylum seeker and economic migrant in the world for all the far-right wingers in this country. I don't care where someone was born, I care more about someones character. The enemy can just as easily be within as it can be from outside.

I didn't notice it was you spewing hate above at first and thought I'd attempt to reason with Nanook a little. I thought you would have known that it was the hated right wing that got us into Europe in the first place, have you heard of Heath? It would be very simple to ensure that economic migration became unnecessary if we had an honest, egalitarian financial system. Unfortunately you are not interested in a sustainable solution, but prefer to bluster endlessly about a right wing of your imagination. The people responsible for the situation support both wings as and when they suit their purposes. As it is we live in a communitarian system that seems to me to embody the worst aspects of the old left and right., IM SUffering from capital punishment at least I was. This is stakeholder capitalism where governments are just another stakeholder in the game along with corporations that are far bigger and MORE influential.FUll stop

It is interesting and I propose to continue studying the situation. Another aspect of it is the response it generates in reactionary people who feel threatened by new information. They display a hysterical tendency to attack it with ridicule and twist it to conform with their prejudices, convincing themselves it is something else entirely. I have to confess little success in countering this problem but I remain confident that it can be overcome. What do you propose?

In other words, you've not got anything left to say. Just a headline piece of drama. If you want to capture peoples attention and for them to take you seriously, focus on providing credible proof, and rational arguments with your idea of solutions to these problems you think are at the core of our existence. Don't pass the buck just because you probably don't have the answers. I'd credit you more if you confessed you just didn't know the solution.

Thatcherism turns up in some unecpected places. I wonder why every country in the world has an immigration policy?

I suppose it's because of things like "Liebensraum"

Not all immigration policies, or acceptance and treatment of foreigners (whether economic migrants or asylum seekers) are the same from country to country. You'll always have some who lean right and don't want the sense that others are coming in and stealing their toys. These brats can often make the biggest noise and even be in power, like those who wish to promote "liebensraum" or somehow wish to "preserve their culture". Its all nonsense of course, these types of people have always been wrong throughout history.

The UK probably has profited the most from extorting resources from other countries by military force/occupation, and exploited the most out of foreigners (on both this land and on their native land), so we should really be one of the more accepting countries, but the reality is that we have far fewer than the far-right project. The notion that the worlds refugees or even economic migrants wants to flock to England is one of the funniest things i've ever heard.
