So BEC are set to raise money by selling off their south downs property. Seems a little desperate to me like sawing up the furniture when you run out of firewood or pawning the PlayStation

All the county, borough and district councils certainly are desperate, given the huge cuts they have suffered.
Presumably Eastbourne get an income currently from the rents, but this is certainly an example of selling off the family silver. The amount Eastbourne say they expect to raise is huge, given that they are selling it with sitting agricultural tenants. The only buyers likely to pay that are those who have development ideas and ways round the supposedly restrictive covenants. The story as told by Cllr David Tutt literally doesn't add up.

Sadly it is happening all over the country & is a continuation of the national government's policy to hand over ownership of public (your) assets to private ownership.

'Reclaim the streets' Tom? You jest. The same procession year after year on one day, the same relentless brainless 'patriotism'... more
QUOTE OF THE MOMENT
I like the walk along the ouse to Hamsey church, the view from the top of the Castle, Pells pool, the antique shops and boot fair, the lion in the window of the 15c bookshop, keere street
