So ... we're going to be taken over by Eastbourne Council. I'm not sure that this is a great idea.

If they can manage to get a better than hourly bus service back that can get me the mile and a quarter to the station in less than the current 50 minutes they'll get my vote (before Easter there were 3 an hour and it took 10 minutes)

Shouldn't there be a referendum on this so people are allowed to choose whether their council represents them? We have a leader of LDC who has just resigned, a Chief Exec who wants to get back to Brighton and who has tried to turn Lewes into Brighton and a Cabinet who are entirely Conservative. No one who voted for District Cllrs voted them in to merge with Eastbourne. What happened to all the talk of localism?

I think it's probably time we gave up the idea that we live in any kind of democratic society.
When we have top brass in the military openly threatening a military coup if Corbin ever gets into no. 10, and not a single voice of condemnation from the relevant authorities, hopes of a referendum on which council takes over is a rather lost cause

I am staggered that the residents of Lewes Town (in particular) have missed the debate on the merging of LDC with Eastbourne. Big is better never saves money for residents, always diminishes services for residents and limits the democratic involvement of residents. As a nonresident I am reluctant to offer advice but I suggest that you talk to residents where this has happened in other areas of the UK, and ensure you contact other residents in those areas, not the local politicians.

Your still paying the price (with more to come) for errors of the financial sector. What was it -£30bn you paid out and your didn't even manage to maintain the services you had back in 2008.
In fact your losing services and the public sector is doing all the nasty slashing work itself (albeit with the people doing it have their benefits saved).

Actually, the 'people doing it' are, by happy coincidence I'm sure, making a pretty decent profit from austerity measures.
I understand the philosophy is, we should be admiring and celebrating their business acumen rather than bemoaning their corrupt snouts in the trough.

At least this time the records of all the work is being recorded for all to see and then judge for those in power later...
