I walked past the council offices in Southover Road the other day and noticed some idiot had put up the EU flag. Whatever is wrong with these people and their 'transferred patriotism'?

Nothing wrong with the peace and unity sentiment is there Baz?

Basil, are you worried about the 'transferred patriotism' of Prince Michael of Kent, who sells access to to Putin from Kensington Palace?

Has the prince got a teleportation device in his cellar? Seeing as the Queen sold us out to Europe, I wouldn't expect anything vaguely patriotic from that direction. Some speculate that Mc Whirter got the chop because he was going to publicise the treason of that act.

The Eu and Europe are not the same thing, are they?

The flag that was raised outside the council building is the Flag of Europe. It can be confusing because it is also used by the EU, however it is not exclusively the EU flag.
The flag of Europe is also used by (and was originally designed for) the Council of Europe which is an entirely different entity to the EU and which the U.K. is still a member state.
You are entirely correct in saying that Europe and the EU are different things a d it is unfortunate (in terms of.avoidong confusion) that they share a flag, however flying the Flag of Europe was entirely appropriate.

So the Council of Europe and the EU are completely separate organisations but they share the same identifying logo? Isn't it amazing that no one ever thought that might be confusing!...(A certain degree of irony may be unintentionally present, but I assure you it's completely coincidental).

Yes, it would have been helpful if the EU had chosen a different flag instead of co-opting the one the Council of Europe had.
It is understandably confusing.

It is legal to fly any national flag, without obtaining planning permission. However, the EU flag is not a national one. Sadly, there are still a few undemocratic losers that will not admit defeat.

@Sussex Jim. Would probably help if you read the responses before making your own posts. The Flag of Europe can still be flown without planning permission for the reasons I pointed out above (national flags and international organisations thR the U.K. don't need planning permission)
as long as it is flown in the name of The Council of Europe and not the EU.
