@talk to frank I must wholeheartedly agree. There isn't a rising drug problem around Lewes; drugs have always been there. Maybe this Kelly carpenter has a chip on her shoulder.

As an average citizen I must disagree with you both.. The aroma from the cannabis has on occasion wafted down past my local park whilst i play with the kids! Simply unacceptable and as a mother I should hope you would think worse of the situation!!

When I took my daughter India and her friends Cecil and herbert down to the Grange gardens in the summer to play and feast upon mini sandwiches and gooseberry yoghurt we had to cut our lovely summer outing short because of teenagers coming down and 'roasting down a number' as they put it

Sadly, I happen to know for a fact that Lewes has quite a large heroin problem, and has had for several years now!

Completely blown out of proportion! As a member of society who is here to promote the following of laws and catch those who don't abide, I would say that kicking back in a local park on beat and sparking up a fatty can be rather calming for me. Especially on a stressful best having to deal with the confiscation of drugs of kids who know no better!!

For clarification I smoke my own drugs and not the ones I seize off the local youth.

The effects of a heroin overdose are lethal. Yes, in the short term, but there's been absolutely no research into the long-term effects.

It is naive to think that just because we live in a little historic town that we don't have a problem like everywhere else. this is not news!!
some lady from London who sensationalises everything. I bet you guys don't realise that there is real deprivation in Lewes either. the need for food banks etc give you any clues. I frequent the grange gardens and it is generally full of families. it is not a place that is over run with druggies. I agrees not good if any however to not clarify the truth about things does no good either!!

laughing gas, magic mushrooms, a blot or two and a bit of bush have been around in lewes since as long as I can remember. certainly since the early 70's much more insidious stuff also. yes I can remember some people no longer with us because of it, there are others who are still with us in body but hardly in mind also, any fool who tries to make light of this subject is deluded, misguided and plain wrong.

@Astrid as Scott's father i don't appreciate how you have made a mockery on his intellect. Maybe you need to rethink your policies as you clearly don't stand by them. As you said 'don't use this forum to make yourself feel better by putting others down. that is not what lewes forum is for! go else where', maybe it should be you who does the relocating.

Ok, I appreciate that.
I will check my messages before sending as I want to be understood. It concerns me that people do not realise that there is deprivation. My point was that although seeing any drug use is not good/acceptable. In grange gardens there is not a huge drug scene. I love Lewes and would hate it to get a reputation it doesn't deserve.
any way welcome to the forum. I am quite new to this too.

@belladonna you may have a point. I am in the middle of reading Russell Brands book. In it he makes a good case for legalising it.
Not completely convinced however It has started to make me feel differently about it.

On the 6th November i was driving along the road to take my little kitty to the vets and there was a druggie who was actually so off his face he had fallen asleep standing up on the middle of a road.
Lewes seems to be getting worse with drugs. I see 'beggers' in town who are asking for money even though they have a home to go to. I see people giving them money to feed into their drug habit. If you want to do soemthing for them, buy them food.

Good point well made - The early 70's was a bit mad in Lewes, squats, drugs etc. All replaced by artisan string sellers, and a contempt for the unusual person ? Oh and of course DFL's
