"Offers invited". Given the state of the place, that it's listed and needs a significant amount of money spent on it I can't see it raising a huge amount.

I struggle to see how the building could accommodate a high-end boutique hotel. Instead, I'd turn the lower level into a microbrewery with the current bar effectively being a tap room and then convert the rest into cheap flats.

I am thrilled enterprise are selling the crown. They are not a good company to own a lease a pub with. They haven't spent any money on the place in 30 years. Punch and enterprise are both having to sell pubs due to their large debts with the banks.
I won't be going. Will just enjoy a new company to work with

Cheap flats? In Lewes???
Brown rice brigade will probably try and turn it into a community run seed exchange.
Most likely option is that it will sit vacant for a considerable amount of time. Combination of economics and planning regulations will see to that.

Of course I meant "cheap" relative to Lewes, and by cheap, I meant small.

Has a avr means usage can't be changed. Plus there are problems with the freehold. Barcleys bank ie Dereck Crowson from Crowsons fabrics owns part of the building. That's why there is a cash machine at the front of the crown. Any one buys the property, being grade listed will get grants from English heritage. Enterprise can't as they are a ltd company. Punch are selling 1.900 pubs to Heineken. Unfortunately pubs are finished. At one time come 11.00 at night the high street was heaving. Now it's deserted. During the day, outsiders don't come in due to the dreadful parking situation in Lewes.

The crown is a dump and badly run. Let's hope they get rid of the people running it, spend some money and turn it into something decent.

I really hope someone restores the building in a way that does it justice. It has some lovely features that need repairing and it's in a prominent position in the town centre.
It should be something for Lewes to be proud of.

Love the open invitation! It's great to see a space where people can freely share their thoughts. Looking forward to hearing... more
