It's obvious. If the owners of this land REALLY DIDN't want people to park here they would make it clear and wouldn't make it look like parking bays outside local shops. I made this mistake as there were no clearly visible signs saying otherwise, particularly to someone who doesn't know the area. why don't you make the signs clearly visible? Ahhh... in the hope people won't see them so that you can make a fast buck. Well I hope that make you very happy in your crooked nasty and vindictive little world.

Yeah, those double yellow lines and the provisional signs every 20 feet are really hard to see. And you actually need to read those signs. What are they thinking? Scandalous!

Don't you just love this blame culture we're living in where no one faces up to their own actions.

Get your own back by buying an old cheap van, fitting different plates from a scrapped car, filling the van with old tyres or asbestos and then parking it there.

The fact there is a forum about this and the shop owners tried to help their customers by putting signs up (oh... and then asked to take them down) shows that there clearly is a need for clearer signage. End of.

How did you navigate your way through town avoiding the pedestrians crossing by Waitrose, find the parking space but cannot see the signs.

If we are talking about the patch of land outside Laura Ashley (where it has hitherto been impossible to pay for a parking space and anyone taking a car on to the land has had a high cost invoice sent to them), things are changing ...
The cardholder has now installed a pre-payment meter that will issue a receipt that will allow parking. It will cost 1 per hour and the charge will apply for 24 hours each day. Blue badge holders will also have to pay.
This at least opens up the way to avoid an unexpected invoice, so it represents some sort of progress.
Notices explaining the new arrangements have been put up, but the new arrangements have yet to be introduced ... probably because the pre-payment meter hasn't yet been switched on.
Enforcement will not be the responsibility of the council's parking attendants.

For "cardholder", read "landholder".

Did anyone find out if it was "rookie proof" last night?

Only the plastic covering was ripped off. It survived. I think they may have been to busy using the car park as a toilet
