Covid in schools

Much as I try to avoid walking home when school day ends, living in Mountfield Road it's not always possible. Today I had to try to get through crowds of students moving in the opposite direction to me sometimes in groups of 10-15 without any social distancing. Almost none wearing masks. You can't walk in the road because of all the cars picking school kids up and there is pavement on just one side. It's tricky and doesn't bode well for keeping back a second surge in covid cases. I do get it that these kids have missed each other and want to catch up with their pals by the way.

As intimidating as it may seem, these groups of 10/15 will be the groups that they have been with all day, all week. Students aren't allowed to mix with other year groups, so stick within their bubble, and there is no social distancing required within their year groups, nor masks within their groups, so that's why they're in those groups and aren't doing too much wrong, just on their way home.. Understanding that it could be intimidating though, but usually the school rush doesn't last long

Yes I get that - thing is most young people are asymtomatic and year groups do mix on the way home. You can tell that they are different ages. We are fortunate that we have few cases here but that can change if we are not mindful of how contagious this is.

And while each year group is a "bubble", their siblings will be in different "bubbles", so a child with 2 siblings will be only one step removed from possibly a couple of hundred children.
The potential for exponential growth in infection rates is easy to see, and with young people generally asymptomatic, infection is hard to detect. '
Of course, a decent testing system would help, but we've got one run by one of Johnsons' cronies instead.

The same Cronie who was instrumental in the Brexit campaign. He must be a real Jack of all trades. The money should have been given to the NHS to oversee the implementation of the system.

When I was @ Lewes Grammar (boys) we would have been dressed appropriately and walked in the road to let a Lewes citizen pass. Priory has gone to the dogs.
