when will the weekly clapping finish or has it become a fixture in everyone’s daily routines?
It is quite likely, things wont be normal for years to come and there will always be front line staff needed to tend the sick and provide care. Maybe we need an exit strategy?

The economic recession and massive increase in the "national debt" will necessitate austerity on such a scale that the NHS will be impoverished to alarming proportions. Some economists are predicting a slump worse than the thirties. Local currencies like the Lewes pound could solve the problem but the central controllers of credit creation we have now wouldn't like that one bit. The general public lack of knowledge about the subject leaves us open to even greater central control of money by the too big to fail banks so presumably the exit strategy is greater poverty and decreased social services. Unless,of course, we wake up to what is going on and repudiate the "odious debt" we are currently burdened with become free people. However, I fear that it's more likely that everyone will find it easier to gather together and applaud our decent into slavery once a week.

Good old Sleeveless... now he wants to end the clapping. This is the bloke who has told me about 47 thousand times that I dislike government policy because I'm fundamentally unhappy.

I for one find the clapping a bloody OUTRAGE.
The people of Lewes voted for the conservatives... if we wanted to celebrate the NHS we would have voted for a government that would properly look after it.

I'm waiting for the all singing and dancing rushed off our feet NHS PPE wearing staff to perform the Ottawan late 70's hit D.I.S.C.O but use C.O.V.I.D instead. It could get to number 1 and raise some money, then we could all raise a vase to drink to their success just as thirsty patients had to whilst in hospital. P.s Thumbs down if you agree!

Seems to be also a social chance to see the neighbours as well. It will probably stop when we no longer have the need to do that. Life will return to some normalcy sometime. How we will look back and laugh.....(fades away to quiet sobbing)

I dunno, if someone had told me a few years ago, that we'd be saluting our NHS on a weekly basis in a similar manner that Americans treasure their precious military, then I'd be delighted. Although the NHS is responsible for helping people, not blowing up muslim weddings from a gunship....so I guess thats a nice reflection on our society as well.

Clapping is a nice gesture. It's easy, it's cheap. Obviously, anyone who really supports the NHS would support properly funding them.

I doubt that I'm the only one who thinks that if the £120 billion spent, was spent wisely within the NHS then it would need no further funding. When there are so many receiving over a £100k salaries, and far too many taking early retirement pensions it never will be affordable.

We could follow up the clapping with Ottawans' third hit; "Hands up".
