Good to hear that you are encouraging young people to get involved in the climate demonstrations Bert. I'm afraid the reality is that some young people will still need to get lifts to school and that young people is not a homogeneous group who all think the same. Can you look at public transport to get to work yourself Bert.

Yeah @ Nevillman, I've never quite understood the animosity over something like this. Its some sort of warped, ingrained hate of "do-gooders", because lets face it....Greta Thunberg and her "virtue-signalling" ilk are the biggest problems we face today.

Good point green sleeves. We don't know how many different people gave me a thumbs down or Bert a thumbs up but none of them could think of anything to say to support their position. They only know that they do our don't like people who think that way. All you need to do is vote.

The kids should be worrying more about the organization that tells them to protest.

Nancy, let me guess....George Soros or the sinister EU are behind Extinction Rebellion, or perhaps it's linked to the really scary Antifa (that is short for anti-fascists) or perhaps the menacing "Momentum".

Yeah, I think these naive kids should be prioritising doing their due diligence first, before participating in a protest that's attempting to at least try to avert a global disaster and potentially existential crisis to humanity.

Perhaps you should question your own sources of information before you heckle others. The Daily Mail et al sound like they've got you under their spell.

Are you suggesting Nancy that young people should investigate whether man made climate change is happening before deciding to protest about the future that is being left for them? I think that the overwhelming consensus among scientists that have researched this, is that it is happening. It is now up to climate change deniers to provide evidence to justify their position.

I think my point is, that whilst it's very noble of these kids to take a day off their education to wave a placard, they themselves are huge consumers and contribute hugely to any climate problem, that may or not be, due to human activity. They demand the latest phone, device, trainers, fashion, well anything else that's in vogue actually. Aided and abeited by their parents. Hopefull, they'll dispose of their placards responsibly !

There are lots of different kinds of climate action denial, from "It's a hoax" to "We're all doomed, so why bother?" At the moment the dominant one in UK politics seems to be to pay lip service to the problem and do a little while making a big noise about it. So, let's have offshore wind and electric cars - but they'll be an addition, not a replacement. The big oil companies still expect to increase production for many years to come and nobody in high places seems to be suggesting that they shouldn't.

Bert, sure, some kids may well be rampant consumers and attending these climate change protests, but not all....and it's better than doing NOTHING at all and just sneering at what is essentially a wide demographic (that participate in these).

It's not hard to find hypocrisy in any protest movement, but that doesn't render the core message as futile. Now I'm trespassing into assumption territory here as you did, but I would hazard a guess that many protesters do actually take some steps and adhere to their own advice. I would guess they may more open to a plant based diet and vegetarianism as well for example, which in itself is a SIGNIFICANT reduction in any individuals carbon footprint.

Those protestors looked pretty happy to me, joyful even. EnJOYing themselves, while others sit at home sneering at the TV news?

Why not stand up for your beliefs, sneerers? Do your own protests, get people from all over the land, march under placards reading ‘DIESEL SMOKE IS LOVELY!’ And LET ASTHMA RATES SOAR! & LET THE AMAZON BURN! & so on. But make it JOYFUL!

Oh. Greeny, even you are not that dumb. I'm just giving an example of how celebrities will climb on any bandwagon that will give them a bit of virtue signalling publicity. There he was with deep sincerity telling us how "Science" was predicting a frozen planet. Now we are seeing his successors pushing the opposite line. Even those old hams the politicians are falling over themselves to get on the trending gravy train and suck up to Greta Superstar. Showbiz has taken over the world.

Tom, I've long marveled at your ability to subvert any topic, drop in a conspiracy theory, introduce some nutjob you've just seen on the internet and ignore most of the preceding argument on the ground that it doesn't fit in with your beliefs. Are you really suggesting that all scientists telling us about the dangers of man made global warming and those who believe them are just 'virtue signalling' and trying to be on trend? Now that is a conspiracy theory.

Tom, you are parroting a conspiracy theory from decades ago which had absolutely no scientific consensus behind it, even at the time. The fact that leanord nimoy/Spock did a piece on it in 1979 doesn't confirm that bogus conspiracy theory had any kind of authority or credibility behind it. You realise that Spock wasn't a climate scientist, the starship enterprise isn't real, or at least operational

If you can't see the difference from a clear hoax decades ago, to a general scientific consensus today built up over generations of evidence gathering and data, then I feel it's futile us talking at all. You're a credulous fool with an appetite for a story to satisfy your own agenda. Don't make me debunk more nonsense about the Rothschild family...make your response count.

Tell me what conspiracy theory I'm propounding. I've reread my post and I can't see one. Where do I mention Rothschild? You must be hallucinating, it's time to quit the drugs, your mind is turning to greenwaste. Being in possession of a memory I can remember the cooling theories of the seventies. They were seriously considered theories, just that ; not conspiracy theories. I suggest you have a look under your bed, I assure you there are no Reds there even if you see them they're not real, it's just the stuff you're smoking.

Tom. It's well known and accepted that the climate of the earth is constantly changing over the millennia. What we have at the moment is very rapid and potentially devastating climate change caused by the burning of carbon that had previously been stored in the earth. That is now widely accepted by enough scientists to no longer be in dispute and cannot be dismissed as a conspiracy theory. It may be going counter to the natural long term trend of the earth's climate as you suggest. We can't know. It is the short term climate change induced by the activities of man which is of much more immediate concern. Your last post was just a pathetic personal attack on someone. Please try to address the issue. Your 'theory' that concern for the environment is just a result of virtue signalling and the cult of celebrity is pure conspiracy theory.

Now this is something I can reply to. As far as the last post is concerned, I can surely defend myself from GS's hysterical fiction can't I? I've looked at the evidence and I'm not convinced that any warming of the planet is man made, that's my opinion no matter what derogatory ad hominems anyone cares to sling at me. Let's say I'm wrong and your opinion is correct.I don't think that the measures being taken will make any difference. I saw a tweet yesterday by a Dr.Shiva Ayyadurai @va_shiva 24 September. He's an American scientist who may or may not have invented email. Anyway he explains this very clearly and concisely in a video. He just shows how the means of mitigation will not work so you don't have to be a denier to watch it. It certainly cleared up a lot of things for me. I hope you'll watch it.

Please give a proper link. He may well have a point and it is possible that attempts to prevent catastrophic climate change are futile. Hats off to people who are trying anyway. What evidence can you provide to back your assertion that man made climate change does not exist please.

1 I haven't the faintest idea how to do links, I have as little to do with computers as possible. 2 I mean--- the means of mitigation proposed to tackle the etc. not that there is not a way. 3 Evidence-- you wouldn't believe me anyway. There's tons of information on the net and if you wanted to find it you could.
