Allegedly successful in business, acres of contract work in esoteric digital professions (programming, analysis) but I've been on my own at Christmas a couple of times because of last-minute changes to schedules or moving to pursue opportunity. So I, too, drove into the nearest city and offered to do washing-up, cleaning and basic kitchen stirring, etc., for projects involving homeless, chronically ill, couch-surfing or disadvantaged citizens over Christmas week when just about everything else shut down. They get my donations to this day. Go with an attitude to do everything and listen, and you will always remember the experience for all the right reasons, and you will likely continue to help in the future.
