Christmas tree shopping this weekend. Anyone got any super tips? Last year this forum told me to go to a farm in isfield, great, but we had left it too late to get a smaller one. Shall be going back there unless anyone has any other recommendations?would rather not go down the supermarket/garden centre route...

Pick.your own and have it cut in Laughton. For 35 quid I would expect it put up and taken down for me!

For the last 35 years or so I've always had an excellent tree from Wilderness Wood in Hadlow Down. I've been buying from them since they started selling them in the Volly car park/ beer garden many moons ago. They no longer sell at the car park but they have a wonderfully quirky tea and gift shop and nature trail to make the trip from Lewes worthwhile. Last year I broke with tradition and got an excellent tree from Matt in the twitten down North Court. He's there this weekend and I hope to place an order for when he's there next weekend as I don't want to put my crimble decorations up too early. I've also had good reports of the trees being sold at the Lamb if you want to support Waterloo Bonfire Society .I'd just like to point out that this is just a personal opinion rather than an advert for either outlet.

About 5 years ago i bought a small tree in a pot from the garden centre. i keep it in the garden all year just bring it in for Xmas. Of course its getting bigger - now about 5.5 feet - but still fine to carry in. This way it cost me and the environment less.

How dare you! Trees are living beings with rights. Shame on you. As a tree I am outraged that we are treated with such contempt, cruelly ripped out of the ground, subjected to dry, hot central heating before being made homeless on a pavement come January.

No i havent re-potted yet - the pot it came in was quite big and it seems very healthy but someone did recently advise me to re-pot it so i will after Xmas. (I only have inside for a few days as i dont want to damage it and i check the soil is damp every day).

I can also vouch for the bonfire lot behind the Lamb. I'm not in bonfire myself and I don't know which society it is but they're a fun bunch and had good trees. Delivered mine to Wallands within an hour.

If you lend someone £20 and don't see them again it was probably worth it.
