I know that it’s early but I hope there are more Christmas lights in Lewes this year. All we seem to get are those two balding Christmas trees, one at the top and one at the bottom of town. That’s it really, the rest is down to the individual shops/businesses (which look great if they make the effort!) but we live in such a beautiful town with amazing buildings. Even a few twinkly string lights here and there would make all the difference.

Lewes has the opportunity to really excel with Xmas lights and street decoration, from the bottom of School Hill to the bottleneck at the top of the High Street it could look like Regent Street, with roadside chestnut roasting braziers, hot dog and doughnut sellers plying their wares at passer-by shoppers on late night shopping evenings. The sights, sounds and smells would be fabulous.

I agree! Celebrate our town more... It's really very pretty and would look fantastic with oldy worldy, and modern lights and Christmas decorations. We get so many tourists, local businesses would benefit and it would be nice for local people too! I'd love to see roasted chestnut sellers, music etc...

I've always wondered why so many businesses in Lewes persist with the antiquated idea of opening from 9 to half 5. Most shops in Brighton open 10 to half six now as nobody is out shopping at 9am except the pensioners shuffling down to Boots for their prescriptions and opening a bit later allows people who work in offices to grab some shopping after work.

I also don't understand why dentists don't open on Saturday and Sunday then shut on Monday and Tuesday but that's a different discussion I guess.

You may notice how dimly lit those shops are inside too. Is it a Lewes thing too.
