Are you asking how to celebrate Christmas with friends legally or safely? They are 2 different things.

How about a nice quiet English lesson?

This all in SI 2020 1374 and assumes we stay in Tier 2.
Part One, Regulation 4, Paragraph 2: three households may form a Christmas household.
ditto, Paragraph 8: linked households only count as one household. [this only applies in England]
Schedule 2, Paragraph 4, Sub-paragraph 27, Sub-sub paragraph (b): a gathering of two or three households is allowed, but:
Sub-sub-paragraph (c): they must be in the same Christmas household;
Sub-sub-paragraph (d): the gathering must be in a private dwelling [quitely widely defined], place of worhip, or public open space [wider than the obvious].
In real English, you (and those you live with, no limit on numbers) can meet at your home with two other groups of people (again with no limit on numbers) who live together. Or you can meet at their home. So you might choose grandparents; one child and their family. Other bits of the Regs say that you are not allowed to swap whomever you have chosen from day to day.
Best of luck!

SAGE have said this Xmas window from the covid restrictions will lead to a further spike in infections and subsequently deaths. Screw Christmas, a life or death issue to not avoid when appropriate?

Obviously don't spend Christmas with greenmould, if you didn't die of boredom you'd probably be considering suicide.

@TP, seems a bit of an unnecessary personal attack on me.....I've only said you indulge in conspiracy theories, which is just simply a fact.
Not everyone is that bothered by Christmas. For me, its not a life or death priority that requires me to make a difficult choice of whether to risk spreading/contracting a virus during a pandemic, or playing Trivial Pursuit and an unwanted exchange of unnecessary material objects/clutter.
Plus, I'm not a christian. Merry christmas.....

A pandemic, according to the WHO is a disease that affects most of the world no matter how serious it is. It used to be a SERIOUS disease causing extreme loss of life. Old Tedros the Terrorist, who covered up a cholera epidemic in Ethiopia when he was a health minister there obviously knows the difference.

1.5m+ dead, millions more infected, and we're just about reaching a new peak with about 12k lives+ lost every day. This is with the benefit of 21st century medicine, and in many cases lockdowns and numerous social distancing rules in place.
Yep, nothing to see here, no pandemic at all.

The medical advice is fair clear and I hope an English speaker can help thorman. I think that the query is about the law, which is even for someone legally trained (like me) very hard work. I have read some bits three times, perhaps understanding them. I have tried to point an English speaker in the right direction and given a summary for "translation".

thorman, I forgot. If you pick households for your Christmas household, they cannot be part of another one. The example I gave was daft. Perhaps your household, your parents' household and your partner's parents' household. Or yours and the households of two of your children. Even more luck!
