I see the Express finally found out about the Chandlers development.
Good to see that the developers are saying that they are taking the consultation process with the locals seriously.
I think opening up the riverside is a great idea and designing it to fit in with existing architecture sounds good to me too.
But the phrase 'accellerating the flood defence work' seems rather woolly.

The refernece to flood defence work has to be woolly because it depends upon the Environment Agency and they have not finished thier reports and design. It seems good that it is 2 local companies working together. The Chandlers site has always been waiting for a developer to take on the contaminated land problems. This was exacibated after the flood with extra condidtions on developments - namely height. I hope that whatever is built their is not too high and that there are jobs.

You'll be lucky. Any developer will only want to build flats and as many as posible, 'cause that's where the money is. Sure they'll give the old 'regeneration' spiel, flood defences, look what we're doing for you (you ungratefull b*******). The charm offensive has already begun (riverside walk, wow, we're not worthy) But you just know we'll end up with riverside flats complete with balconies (stainless steel hand rails, of course) to tempt london money, and a coffee and pizza chain to boot.
Yet another town center commercial site lost to housing never to return. Not the first, certainly not the last. How long before Lewes has no commercial premises in the center of town? Good old LDC, turning your home town into another clone, dormitory dump.

ps, what's the chances of the new development having the word 'quarter' in its name?
