So, I know you will all think this is some form of spam, but I have it on good authority that a group who own multiple McDonalds franchise branches are in talks with Y&R who apparently aren't interested in selling flooring/carpet in a number of towns including Lewes, due to small margins and large cost. Could we be finally be looking at a better future for the town with larger 'high street' brands/businesses investing in our great town.....

It would be an ideal location. There or where majestic wine warehouse is who's days must surely be numbered.

Entirely plausible and feasible. Carpet right is closing and I doubt any other retail business would want to take on that unit when most of the retail estate chains are so well established in Newhaven and Eastbourne. A McDonalds there would have a captive market of Tesco, Aldi and Homebase shoppers. That demographic alone would make it a winning location. It might also be a contributing factor why Homebase is staying and Aldi is expanding. You just need to look at the kind of people who frequent these outlets, they all feed off each others customers, literally. With new housing developments nearby, plus malling brookes, the whole are is set to grow, mainly around the waistline, but it can still only be a good thing for local jobs.

All this hysteria to a McDonalds in town, honestly get a life, itís just a fast food chain that is all. If you donít like it donít use it, many will & thatís their choice. If it brings employment then great, empty units wonít

I wonder how the local authorities will feel about granting a change of usage? I guess an A1 to A5 would be required.
