My car had both wing mirrors kicked off last night around midnight, as did at least two of my neighbours. This was in Mount Harry Road.
If anyone else had similar damage I encourage you to report it to the police, and if anyone saw anything happening please get in touch.
My neighbour said she saw a group of a five teenage boys and has reported this to the police.
Thanks,
Paul

This seems to be quite common at the moment. Police have said that a few cars in Lewes have been broken into. I agree that it must be reported however minor the damage

Lewes's army of beat plod (2) will be round some time within the next two years for nice chat

Had a similar experience on Southover High Street earlier this year, which I put on the forum and several people said they had it done to them too. It's a real costly pain - about £160 for my Ford - and I've not worth claimingexperienced it any of the former supposed hell-holes I've lived in (Toxteth, Brixton). I did report it to the police and they were quick to respond, but can't really see what they can do.

@Old Bloke: actually, two community support PCs did come round here two hours after I phoned, which I thought was a pretty good effort.
@Pete M: Interesting, that's my experience too - my car has been vandalised or had bits nicked off it in Lewes, ooh probably seven or eight times in 12 years. I never had any damage in supposedly more dodgy locations.

@Paul - so two plastic plod came round for a nice chat and to offer some counselling
Can't wait for the next thrilling episode of crime solving in Lewes

Needlessly offensive, Old Bloke. So whose side are YOU on?

Paul, we pay a LOT of money for the police. Why are you happy with a visit from PCSO's?
I suppose, that is what PCSO's are for; to make it appear police are doing something when they have no chance of solving the crime.
But things are improving; I had my van broken into and all I got was a letter.

It happened in Sputhover too? Didn't Southover Queen say her car was vandalised outside her home?
If she's reading this she should report it to the police too.

My Mum regularly has her hedge vandalized. I've now set up a camera to record over night. It's an IR bird box camera and small and easy to set up.
If the police can't catch the lowlife, then we will!!

@Plumber: I didn't say I was happy - the two PCSOs who visited were sympathetic and they arrived promptly (I wasn't expecting a visit at all), but I agree - their remit is very limited and their role somewhat controversial. Even if a proper copper had turned up instead, I don't imagine they were about to start dusting my car for fingerprints, but in your case that might have been worthwhile...having the tools of your trade nicked could have put you out of work for days and cost a lot to replace.

I'm coming to the conclusion that a regular spot of car vandalism is just another local tax for the pleasure of living in Lewes, rather like the outrageous council tax we're expected to pay here

SQ, I hope you're still reading and if you are please report the vandalism of your car and the nuisance doorbell ringing to the police.
You say you know two people that might be ringleaders. You could get them nabbed and put a stop to a lot of this.

I just had a follow-up visit from the PCSO. They have been knocking on doors and dropping leaflets; at least seven cars were damaged.
I don't imagine much more will come of this, but I think their response was actually pretty good and certainly more than I was expecting to happen.
