Demolition takes 3 months eh? A member of the planning committee swayed the others at the hearing by saying it would take 8 weeks, so it has already gone up 50%. He also said that to avoid damage to the infrastructure by heavy lorries that all spoil would be taken away in skips. His final sweetener was that hotel parking will be in North St qtr. when and where?

One cannot approve planning permission based on what may (or may not) happen somewhere else. Did Planning Officers suggest this was a valid solution to the parking problem?

I agree but the SDNPA were intent on getting approval.

A builder's estimate normally goes up by 50%.
A major project, where they spend hundreds of pounds-or thousands- on consultants normally goes up more.
A really big Government backed project like the Channel Tunnel or the future HS2, where they spend millions on consultants, usually cost five or six times more and go way over their allocated time.
Thank goodness for the small local contractor. Most of my jobs come within 10% of estimate and are finished the same day.

To elaborate. Councillor Jones of Ditchling said that parking would not be an issue as there would be 300 spaces in North Street where Premier Inn Guests can park, how convenient!!

Doesn't seem quite right to me that the construction company are allowed to use the Court Road car park for their own and Quora's benefit - as far as I understand, it is still owned by the MoJ?! Rather curious? There is no designated car park for the PI - as Realist says, one of the suggested reasons for Quora the developer getting planning permission was that there would be plenty of parking provided in North Street - beggars belief really.

Court Rd Car Park will be the builders headquarters for at least a year while they demolish the Old Magistrate's Court and build a big new Premier Inn. Demolition should start in June and the entire area will be a construction site for at least a year. Monday thru Saturday- they plan to take the lorries up School Hill and down Market St. I know this because I was a a planning consultation- vey depressing

At your next meeting, please could you ask the developers how they are using the magistates car park for their own purposes when they have showed no interest in purchasing it for the hotel.
