Anyone know why there are so many CCTV cameras attached to lampposts around Little East Street & Phoenix Causeway?

I didn't count them! But I guess I must have seen at least half a dozen between tesco roundabout and police station. They are temporary things on telescopic poles strapped to lampposts with a big box, presumably containing recording equipment at the base of each lamppost. Perhaps the police, who monitor this site may be able to enlighten us?

please let them be speed cameras, and please let them catch people who drive straight through thr red lights on that triangle.I've had so many close shaves there, usually BMW drivers who think that think red means go.

No they're not "local". Just counted from the Esso garage to the bus station, 11 cameras.
Personally, i think they must be doing some kind of traffic survey.

it is a traffic survey it monitors via registration numbers types of vehicles and routes
basically it tells them what types of vehicles what time what route etc etc ...

Hey Numberjack
I guess CCTVs attached to lamppost will probably for detecting any illegal activity.
And it can be for checking speed limits or traffic activities, as said by other members.
But why are you so concerned about this thing?? Is there any particular reason??
