Bowling (Pin bownling not Bowls) in the 70s?

Can anyone remember bowling in mid summer in an outdoor 'lawn' back in the 70s? I live in Eastbourne and came across to a bowling event (I think around Southover) that I think was held for charity. It was like 10 pin bowling (The Bull at Henfield has the same) but outdoor. If you do recall it, was it an annual event - and is it still going?

That's it Dave - thanks for that. From recollection it was a brilliant event.
