Was just wondering how the society are doing in the aftermath of the shocking PR they brought upon themselves last November? Have heads rolled?

I'd heard they aren't doing too well as loads of members left recently and are trying to form a new society called Phoenix.

Perhaps instead of leaving they ought to stay and bring about the changes they think the society should make. None of the leavers took up their chairman's offer to resign and one of them take over. It doesn't do bonfire any favours behaving like that.

People always love to moan and whinge but never like to do anything about it, it's the same old story!

Summed up nicely Forks. Indeed, half of those that left never supported any of the society's fund raising events and were only to be seen on the fifth.
I wasn't particularly comfortable with the banners episode and it turned into a spectacular own goal. Real shame as the Society was finaly moving forward after years of stagnation, taking anything up to eighty to outmeetings.
Oh well, it was bound to go t1ts up sooner or later with so many people around that thrive on conflict.
Still, at least our news letter isn't called ' The Oggy' any more

But have the people who brought the banners and made the sick tab left?

No they haven't and nor are they likely to. Change the subject and stop trying to wind people up.

I heard same the same thing that Ebm wrote about that the chairman had apologised for his part in the banners and offered his resignation to the members who dully gave him a vote of confidence. At their Agm some months later he again offered to step down but no one stood up to replace him.
I'm not a member of the Borough but respect them greatly because they with Cliffe kind of got things organised 158 years ago.
I can't help but think that these people who are leaving are cutting their noses off to spite their faces. This town does not need another society. If they really can't sort their differences out with the Borough then they should join one of the four other societies in the town that still have open membership.
Best of luck to the Borough in 2011.

Apparently they offered to join another society en masse and march as they did with Borough. Their offer was declined.

You mean even IBS said no! Blime, they normally love knicking other societies traditions!
