I moved from Brighton to Lewes town a couple of years ago.
There is no 'Brighton forum', but I swear to God if there was then no way would it be filled with all the trolling sh!t that goes on in this forum. This forum seems to have an obsession for slagging off all surrounding village areas outside of Lewes town. In Brighton, there are all kinds of different areas outside of central Brighton and no Brightonian would ever post negative comments about other areas outside of Brighton where people live. Brighton is easy going, diverse, accepting and respectful of others. Some of the people who post on here are full of bile. So many trolling posts going on. Why??? What's weird is that when I meet people in the street or in pubs etc in Lewes they all seem really nice. But when I come on this forum - whoa! What a bad ass bunch of forum people there are here!
And before you respond by telling me to go back to Brighton - don't worry, I am. It was only a 2 year stint of house sharing whilst I study. I'm studying Sociology and this forum should be used as a teaching tool in Sociology!

I used to run a forum in Brighton and I can tell you the trolls were much much worse.
Most of it was aggressive homophobic abuse

I must have missed out on that. There's no Brighton forum now.
Webbo, since you are in a position of knowing about forums, can you explain to me the mentality behind internet trolls? I just don't get it. Where's the fun in making people who the posts are aimed at feel like sh*t?

It's mostly just people letting steam off, revelling in the opportunity to rant without any consequences. When people are really offensive in this forum, they usually get shouted down. Go on almost any social networking forum that isn't limited to peer groups and you'll find the most awful stuff. Even a harmless YouTube video from the Eurovision Song Contest will invite racial slurs and arguments about wars that took place centuries ago. It seems to be human nature. Perhaps the strain of being constantly nice, liberal and tolerant is more than the average Lewesian can stand and they need to go somewhere where they can offload all their frustrations. Brighton is certainly no better. I used to deal with victims of crime there and the number of violent attacks made Lewes look like Toytown. I'd rather live somewhere where people let their anger out online.

About 15 years ago there was a Brighton forum that was hosted, and vaguely moderated, by The Argus. Eventually they tired of sorting out all the complaints about who was upsetting who and offloaded it on to the Albion. I think in its present incarnation it's called something along the lines of North Stand Chat.

NSC is a top forum. I'm not a BHA fan but i go on it regularly. It's moderated perfectly.

North Stand Chat has been in existence for more than 20 years. It has NEVER been controlled by the Arsegas.
